Who drinks from your well: a village in Sindh

Our wells are drilled in rural Sindh, in the south of Pakistan, where families still walk to fetch water from ponds and canals. A hand-pump well gives a hamlet of 5 to 10 families clean groundwater at the door, used for drinking, cooking, washing and the animals. Our team on site chooses the location with the village, drills to the water table, installs the pump and the plaque, and films the first water. That is the video you receive.

Features of a Simple Well

WATER PASSES,SAND STAYS OUT 15–40 mdeep Ø 25–100 mm ≈ 3months 0people served TOPSOILELUVIUMSUBSOILWATER TABLEBEDROCKMANUALWATER PUMPFILTERTIP
Perforated casing with filter tip: the completed well rests on a robust, perforated tube finished with a tip; a screen attached at the end lets water pass while keeping out fine particles (sand, debris), ensuring clear water from the moment it is captured.
Driven method (percussion): a heavy drill bit, suspended on a rope or cable, is repeatedly lifted and dropped; the impact breaks up the soil and gradually drives the casing down to the water table.
Water injection method: pressurized water is injected into the tube; as it escapes at the bottom, it fluidizes the soil and facilitates the successive insertion of casing segments, ideal for loose to compact soils.
Caisson sinking method: a wide circular casing is first erected at the surface, then excavation continues inside; under its own weight, the casing sinks as digging progresses, allowing much larger diameters for collective use.
Depth & diameter: wells are generally shallow, from less than 15 m up to 40 m depending on the soil and method; diameters range from 25 to 100 mm as standard, and can reach several metres with caisson sinking.
Construction time: full cycle of ≈ 3 months, from site selection to the first potability tests.
Number of beneficiaries: each completed well can serve up to 50 people, providing lasting access to safe drinking water.

Our Protocol for Building a Well 💧

Before starting, the team selects the well site carefully, taking the local geology into account to find groundwater, and makes sure the site is accessible and suitable for a well.

A circular casing, made of metal or rigid plastic, is prepared. Its strength is essential to withstand soil pressure and ensure the well remains stable throughout all construction stages.
The casing is then placed at the chosen location. It serves as a guide throughout the excavation, allowing the well to descend straight and safely.
The teams begin digging inside the casing, using manual tools or mechanised equipment. This initial phase sets the casing into the ground.

As excavation progresses, the depth is carefully monitored. The goal is to reach the water table and ensure the quality of the water source.

Under the effect of digging and the weight of the casing, it gradually sinks into the soil. This method prevents collapse and ensures stable walls.

The soil and debris extracted from the casing are regularly removed. This operation, either manual or mechanised, is essential for allowing the casing to continue descending.

Once the desired depth is reached, the casing remains in place to form the final well structure. The well is secured to ensure long-lasting access and water protected from any contamination.

Is a water well sadaqah jariyah? What the hadith says

Sadaqah jariyah is the charity that keeps giving after you stop giving. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said that when a person dies, their deeds end except three: an ongoing charity, knowledge that benefits others, and a righteous child who prays for them (Sahih Muslim 1631). Water is the example the Companions were given: when Sa’d ibn Ubadah asked which charity was best for his mother who had died, the answer was water, and Sa’d dug a well and said, “This is for Umm Sa’d” (Abu Dawud 1681, an-Nasa’i 3664). A hand-pump well in Pakistan does exactly that: it gives water to a village for years, in the name you choose. Many customers build it for a parent who has passed away, or add a fruit tree for a smaller ongoing deed.

Go further: the three hadiths on the water well, where the £195 goes, and building a well in someone’s name.

💧 Safe drinking water in about 3 months: In about 3 months, the perforated casing reaches the water table and delivers filtered, safe, and clear water—perfect for immediately improving the health of rural families.

👥 Up to 50 lives transformed: Each completed well serves a community of about 50 people, reducing travel time for water collection and freeing up time for school, work, and family life.

🛠️ Adapted & cost-effective technology: Driven by pounding, injection, or auger methods—three flexible approaches to fit local geology, reduce initial costs, and ensure reliable installation, even in soft soils.

🌱 Social and environmental impact: By capturing infiltrated rainwater, the well protects the resource, supports subsistence farming, and fosters economic development without heavy infrastructure.

🚀 Quick installation, simple maintenance: Compact diameter (25–100 mm) and controlled depth (<40 m): fewer parts, fewer breakdowns, and easy local maintenance for years of worry-free use.

✅ Advantages

💧 Quick access to filtered water: perforated casing ≤ 40 m, operational in about 3 months.
🛠️ Controlled cost & flexible techniques: driving, injection, or caisson sinking adapt to almost all soil types.

⚠️ Disadvantages

📏 Limited depth: reduced effectiveness if the aquifer is too deep or rocky.
🔄 Variable flow & regular maintenance: filter clogging possible, requiring local monitoring.

🔩 Perforated casing + screen: steel or PVC, filters sand and keeps water clear.

📏 < 40 m depth, Ø 25–100 mm: designed for shallow aquifers and lightweight installation.

⚙️ Flexible installation (driving, injection, caisson sinking): adapts to soil type and controls costs.

⏱️ About 3 months for 50 people: fast access to drinking water with minimal local maintenance.

How long can a well last?

We guarantee the proper functioning of the well for 2 years. Its lifespan can reach up to 10 years under good usage and maintenance conditions.

Everything: the drilling and the hand pump, the plaque with the name you choose, the GPS coordinates, the photos and the video of the finished well, our customer service in English, and our margin. No taxes or fees are added at checkout. Nothing is shipped: everything happens in the village.

Yes, with regular maintenance work and constant monitoring, a well’s viability can be prolonged.
On average, construction is completed in 3 months, depending on the geology and water depth.
Because our expertise and local teams allow us to work efficiently while ensuring quality.
Thanks to careful planning and techniques adapted to the terrain, we get the well into service faster.

Yes. A well keeps giving water after the day you pay for it, which is exactly what sadaqah jariyah means (Sahih Muslim 1631). The Companion Sa’d ibn Ubadah dug a well for his late mother on the Prophet’s advice (Abu Dawud 1681). Buying the well from a company rather than through a charity does not change the deed: the water flows, the intention is yours.

Yes. Write the name of the person on the order form and it goes on the plaque. Most of our wells are built for a parent, a grandparent or a child who has passed away. You can also order it as a gift and have the certificate sent to someone else. See sadaqah jariyah for the deceased.
